About the Book

Tampa Sun newspaper writer Larry Mickle answers the call of a dying World War II admiral, and in doing so stumbles upon a decades old secret - and the answer to perhaps the most compelling mystery of the 20th century.

Moon Over Berlin takes Mickle to rural Mossyrock, Florida, not far from the shores of the Suwannee River, and to the Alapaha Junction Nursing Home. There he meets nursing home resident Barney Butler, an 86-year-old former hardware store owner and mayor - well-known by virtually everyone in town.

Or so they thought.

Over the course of several days, Butler takes Mickle on a journey through time, one that begins in the swamps of North Florida and travels through war-torn Germany. A cast of characters present obstacles along the way - to both a young Barney Butler, and to a modern day Larry Mickle.

Moon Over Berlin is a story of grit and determination, of the loyal bonds of friendship, of good and evil.

Retired U.S. Air Force journalist Rick Burnham is editor of the Levy County Journal, covering the small communities located along Florida's scenic Suwannee River. He writes a weekly column about small-town life and big-city politics, and dabbles in news and sportswriting as well.
