Constantine awoke the next morning, aware that Shayne was still in his arms, but Cheyenne was missing from their little huddle. Before he could extricate himself, he felt a cold wave of shock as a strong boot roughly nudged his shoulder, and he stared up to see four tall, hooded figures standing over him with old-style weapons pointing directly at him and Shayne. He froze, and tried to formulate a next move that wouldn’t result in harm to his defenseless, sleeping sibling. The nearest, tallest man was hooded, his visage concealed by the heatmask and goggles he wore, but Constantine could see a harsh amusement in his dark gray eyes as he stared down at the two Chays. The man had a deadly looking crossbow pointed at Constantine’s chest, where Shayne’s head rested. He made a get-up movement with the weapon, then stepped back and spoke. “Good morning, Your Highness. So nice of you and your brother to join us. I must thank Cheyenne for bringing you both here so safely. Now, get up.” The man’s voice had turned to ice, as had Constantine’s soul at what he now knew was a very intimate, planned betrayal.
