About the Book
Sometimes life is filled with love, passion, happiness, and bliss. Other times disappointment reigns, and the disillusionment and sadness are overwhelming. The challenge is to find a balance and to remain hopeful. The verse in this new collection by poet Rózália Sófalvi covers it all—every aspect of love and disappointment. The content is very personal and heartfelt, yet it inspires thoughts of our own experiences.
The poems document the clashing notes of Rózália’s fantasies and realities, and we are reminded that the journey to love is most often a breathless course through alibis and lies. Perfection, even when we catch a glimpse, is not a permanent thing. Alibis and Lies is everyone’s story. We are not alone in our search for love. There is always hope. And the search is worth the journey. Mesmerized. Your eyes draw me deeper and deeper into an unreal world. Farther and farther from the world I know. Your fingers draw me toward a kiss I know could kill.

IF POETRY, SHORT STORIES or CHILDRENS BOOK: 1. What inspired you to write this book? I wasn’t inspired by one thing alone. Most of my life, I spent alone. As a child, with three brothers, living on a farm, I always felt quite isolated. Most of my time was spent alone. With no friends nearby, I spent a lot of time fantasizing and writing. My thoughts made more sense when they appeared on paper. Plus there was something really interesting about words on paper. I could spend hours in a stationary store, searching through pens and paper. While other girls my age were shopping for clothes or makeup, I would admire blank books and fountain pens. When I got to high school my mind often wandered during classes so I wrote. Putting thoughts on paper helped me sort out my feelings and emotions. Mostly I kept everything to myself, but sometimes when I showed someone what I had written, and they would say, they were impressed and touched because I managed to put into words what they were thinking. That inspired me to continue writing. Eventually there was enough for a book. So, life inspired me to write Alibis and Lies. 2. Who are the characters in your children’s book, stories or poetry? Can you provide any specific examples? The book is a reflection of a couple of relationships I had. There’s really no need to identify the other characters. They know who they are. What’s most important are the lessons learned along the journey to find that illusive soulmate; trying to sort out the clues; understanding what’s real and what isn’t. But mostly, surviving the disillusionment and pain when everything is not the way we’d like them to be. Alibis and Lies is also, about moving on after the lessons are learned; and remaining positive. IF SELF-HELP: 1. What is the topic of your self help book? 2. How did you learn about topic? (i.e. personal experience, education, etc.) 3. What inspired you to write the book? PERSONAL INFORMATION: 1. Please supply us with a brief author bio. Please do not include anything you do not want shared with the media. I left home at 16, married young, studied filmmaking and photography in college, but that’s not what I do for a living. My passions include my children and grandson, travelling, photography, music and books. I’m always reading between the lines, and trying to guess how movies will end. I like reading the last page of a book, or seeing the end of a movie first, so I can see what leads to such an ending. Not popular pastimes, but they work for me. I’m always homesick for Transylvania, where I was born, and try to return there as often as possible. 2. Is this your first book? If not, please list other books that you have written. Yes, Alibis and Lies is my first book. Alibis and Lies is poetic prose. It reads more like a diary than a book. Each page makes sense on it’s own, or the whole book can be read from beginning to end within an hour. The thoughts flow from one to the other. The waves of emotion are evident in the flow of the book. Sometimes a few words express all that is necessary. Other times, it takes more than one or two pages to complete a thought. It’s written in a very simple, sparse way. As someone once said, “Emotions exposed, stripped naked”. There’s nowhere to hide when it comes to emotions, sooner, or later, they have to be faced. Aloneness is not the problem. Feeling lonely can be. But everyone makes these discoveries in their own way on their own journey. What I’ve found is that when someone starts to read Alibis and Lies, at first it’s my story, but within a few pages, it awakens memories, experiences or insecurities that they might have had. By the end of the book, it’s more about their experiences than mine. Thank you for your time.
