The following is one of twelve lyrics from Bacon's Rebellion. Four lower class women are looting Governor Berkeley's mansion shortly before Jamestown erupts in flames. V-1 Nathaniel is Sir Berkeley's meat And fate for him sure won't be sweet 'Cause Nat disobeyed sovereign power And soon may meet his final hour V-2 But Nat tried to do things right Both by the law, and in God's sight But his commission was revoked And so he'll likely straighten a rope C Bacon can be cured, by some stringing Bacon can be cured, by some swinging Bacon can be cured by a trap door's swinging And Nat's curing will bring sad singing V-3 But Virginia might be cured by Nat's demise 'Cause King Charles has a thousand eyes And Berkeley's crimes, the king could condemn Then he would be hung just like Nat Bacon R C

About the Book
Perhaps no state rivals Virginia when it comes to colonial history. Yet, there are many aspects of Virginia's early history that are either unknown or vaguely known by the general public. Over the last thirty years, Larson has written over thirty plays that deal with these aspects and the generally well-known men and women involved in them. These people include such names as Thomas Jefferson, John Marshall, Patrick Henry, Meriwether Lewis, John Robinson, Nathaniel Bacon, William Berkeley, John Chiswell, George Wythe, Martha Jefferson Randolph, Harry Lee, Nancy Randolph, John Randolph, Theodosia Burr and Edmund Pendleton.
About the Author
Ron Larson is an award winning playwright and a National Endowment for the Humanities scholar who has long been interested in the sociology of literature and Virginia history. His work has been published in literary and academic journals as well as The Roanoke Times as op-ed pieces. Bacon's Rebellion, A Williamsburg Scandal and Colonel Chiswell's Sword are his most recent plays derived from actual people and events of Virginia's rich colonial history. Larson and his wife, Patricia, reside in Wytheville, VA.
