“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” ~ Mother Teresa
Often we hear about soul mates. Many people read about, take workshops on, and go searching for their soul mate or twin flame with great zeal. They are driven by the idea that a certain person will fulfill all of their desires. Maybe this is true, maybe not, either way this is not what I am talking about when I speak of soul connections.
Soul connections can show up in many different forms and may cover a broad age range. My belief is that when our hearts are open to allowing soul connections into our lives they occur naturally. Coincidence unites souls who have contracted to come together in this lifetime. It appears that souls come together to help each other evolve. This is why some of the strongest soul connections can carry us into our deepest places of pain and fear and into our deepest places of love and transformation.
We have the free will to recognize the energy of a soul connection and learn from it, or to deny the experience and move away from it. Those with whom we have these connections and contracts may be in our lives for extended periods of time, or they may pass briefly by. It is not the time, but the lesson that is important.
Sometimes there is a soul connection and a contract that is made at birth or in early childhood, as with one young, obese woman whom I worked with. As soon as she would begin to drop excess pounds, she would put them right back on. We found that she had a contract with her mother. She was her mother’s friend, and one of the things they did for fun was to shop – in the large women’s department. If she lost weight she would betray her contract with her mother. Or like the young man who was charismatic, bright and a hard worker, yet still could not succeed. He made a contract with himself after his parent’s divorce. His mother repeatedly told him how hard she worked for so little so he contracted that he would never do better or have life easier than she did. He perceived that with this bond she would not leave him, like his father did.
The question often asked is “How can I recognize a soul connection?” In the pages that follow I will share with you stories of soul connections. Some are from my personal experience and some from my work with others. As you read them, some may feel familiar to you, and may remind you, in some ways, of relationships in your own life or in the lives of people you have known. In these pages you will find clues for recognizing soul connections and contracts in your own life
Frederick
“There are treasures beyond compare in the ocean. If you seek safety, stay ashore.”
~ Sufi saying
Frederick first came to me because of the hate that he felt for his stepsister. Frederick had been in pursuit of a spiritual path for many years and was quite aware of the power of thought, forgiveness, and extending love to others. He had tried every means known to him, but still could not resolve the feelings of hatred that he felt toward this woman. Although their relationship had seen difficult times, he could not think of anything that warranted such intense feelings of hate and mistrust. Here was a man who knew the consequences of holding onto such feelings and yet felt powerless to release them.
Frederick and I decided to do a past life regression to find out how his soul and the soul of his stepsister Julie might be connected. The intention was also to release any contracts that might have been made between them. During this regression, Frederick was surprised to find that they had been lovers in a previous lifetime. He had been a woman at that time, and she a man. She (the present day Frederick) was very much in love, but her lover, the present day Julie, betrayed her by having many affairs. Their relationship finally ended when the lover killed her (Frederick). The last thoughts as spirit left her body were thoughts of revenge and hatred. These thoughts and feelings were carried on a cellular level into this present lifetime.
When Frederick went into that place where spirit goes between lives, he found that he and Julie's spirits were very connected and that there was great love between them. Frederick's soul had decided that, for it's greater learning about love and compassion, it needed to experience betrayal by a loved one. Although Julie's soul was reluctant to play out this drama, the agreement was made. When Frederick was able to feel the love for this soul and was able to see that this drama was set up for his own soul's growth and learning, he was able to release the energy of anger and revenge that he was carrying. For the first time, he was able to enter into a place of true forgiveness and harmony with his stepsister.
During this session, Frederick could feel the release and freedom from hate in his body. As the tears flowed from his eyes, and a smile turned the corner of his lips, he could feel the warm energy of love filling him more deeply then he had ever felt it before.
This was a very exciting session for me to participate in. Here again is a wonderful example of how our soul decides upon a lesson to be learned during a physical incarnation. The assistance from other souls is elicited; we don our bodysuits, and begin the drama, never remembering that we were the ones who called the players together.
This wonderful story shows how true forgiveness brings healing to us. It nourishes our soul and every cell of our physical being with love. It allows our energy to come home to us. This is why Jesus said, “Love your enemies.” Until we can reach that place of love and forgiveness, the body, mind, and spirit suffer. If we want to feel loved and filled with the essence of God/Spirit then we must be willing to love and forgive ourselves as well as others.
