Things That Make No Sense

Are you like me? Throughout my life I have witnessed, and sometimes participated in, things that have made no sense at all. After over one hundred years of using an original, secret formula for Coca-Cola, the best selling soft drink in the world, executives decide in 1985 to offer a New Coke. In the mid 1980s, when Americans were able to get high-quality, reasonably-priced telephone service from one of the most successful corporations in the world, the government dismantles the American Telephone & Telegraph Corporation. Our government leaders commit our men and women of the military to the Vietnam War with no intent to win. Signs on the Pennsylvania Turnpike warn travelers to watch for falling rocks, but provide no guidance on what to do when they start falling! The Drug Enforcement Agency botches the investigation of Michael Jackson’s personal doctor who was very possibly involved in Michael’s death. A commode in the public restroom of an upscale department store in Georgia is designed to run for six minutes after it is flushed before it shuts off. The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan actually charges an admission fee to walk through the door. Congress decides in 1997 to transfer the most profitable operation in the entire government, an oil field in California, to the commercial oil and gas industry, putting the interests of the politically powerful oil and gas industry above what was best for the American people—one of the worst, least sensible, decisions our government ever made. These are some of the types of actions and decisions addressed in my new book, Things That Make No Sense. This book is a compilation of sixty of the most ridiculous things I have encountered. No doubt, everyone has been exposed to experiences similar to mine, or even more incredulous than the ones I have included in the book. Some of these things can probably be characterized as funny, some as unbelievable, and others as simply irrational. Readers will find the book to be both entertaining and amusing. Things That Make No Sense is an original, unique, and one-of-a-kind piece of writing. To the best of my knowledge, there has never been another book with this particular theme. With the wide variety of items covered in the book, there is something for everyone to enjoy. People will also find they can easily identify with what they are reading.
