I sat up in bed, reacting to a noise in the bedroom. As I opened my tired eyes, I was met with a bright light which totally blinded me. I raised myself up on one elbow and was immediately aware of a sharp pain on the right side of my head. Everything went black. My next recollection was waking up in a dark room. As my mind cleared a little, I realized I was still in my bed, but my head was pounding and I could taste blood in my mouth. I could not move but was aware of voices in the room with me.

About the Book
A Long Walk Home is the third book in a trilogy written about the women in the author's life – the first being Julia, her maternal grandmother; the second Emma, her mother, and concluding with the author’s own story. As with her forebears, it is a story of faith, determination and survival in a world fraught with challenges.
About the Author
Joan began writing after retiring from a corporate career. It began as a form of therapy and became a calling. After surviving lung cancer shortly after her retirement she took some writing classes and began her literary journey through this new genre called memoir novels. Her motivation was to introduce her children and grandchildren to members of their family that they had never known but who certainly impacted their lives merely by their existence. Joan now lives in Southwest Florida where she enjoys playing bridge, attends as much theater as she can and continues to write.
