Everyone should remember the tsunami that hit many parts of the world in 2004. It was so destructive and devastating, bringing death everywhere it struck. I just passed by the beach front in Batu Ferringhi, in the island of Penang, about less than 1 hour before it struck there, killing many picnickers. I had no idea as I was still driving for an appointment to do a feng shui audit for a client. I was caught in a terrible jam on a road that should not have a grid lock. I was puzzled until I received a phone call from my sister in Sydney. She had seen news footage of a devastating tsunami and was warned it could hit Penang island after the destruction it caused in India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. It was 26th December, 2004. In terms of the Chinese way of thinking, the date can be translated as – Yang Earth/ Tiger (Yang Wood) day, in the year of Yang Wood Monkey(Yang Metal) with Flying Star Number 5 in Central Palace. It makes no sense to many people but it tells me a lot about the energy present on that point in time. For a start, the year has the bad number 5 in Chinese metaphysics. It signifies Earth and disasters, calamities and so on. So a disaster with something to do with the earth element, in this case, it may involve mountains or earthquake. An earthquake under the sea will result in a tsunami no doubt. So part of prediction is true. The year was that of a Wood energy, and wood destroys earth in Chinese metaphysics, so the clash of wood with earth had been set up. The wood in that year, Yang Wood, is big wood, so the wood is a match for the powerful earth. That day, was a day of Earth Tiger. Now Tiger clash with Monkey under Chinese zodiac signs, so another clash had been set up – day clash with year. With two sets of clash, the perfect disaster scene had been set. The energy for 27th December was described in the Chinese Almanac, and it was of death energy. No wonder, when we woke up the next morning, the papers had headlines of death. Now, perhaps you will understand that Chinese Hsia calendar has a lot of meanings and values to those who know how to read and use them while the calendar that the world uses, only tell the year, month and date only. Once you understand energy, its laws and application, you will be able to understand the Universe even. To the Chinese scholars, time is cyclical, in small and large cycles of 12, 60 and 180 year cycles. However to most, with the calendar that everyone is so familiar, time seems to be linear. This is really an illusion because let us look at other years where the number 5 is in the central palace of feng shui calculations. The most infamous one was that of 1941, Year of the Metal Snake. This was the beginning of the 2nd World War. The war ended in 1945, Year of the Wood Rooster, with number 1 as the Flying star number and number one signifies water, which is calm. The 1st World War, in 1914 also had the bad number 5 earth and it was the Year of Wood Tiger. Here, the wood of the year and the wood of the tiger combined to clash with the number 5 earth, oh, what a big clash it was. Here, both of the woods are of the Yang type, the ferocious males, and so the Yin- Yang balance was destroyed, there can not be any harmony. The world had to go for war. The next number 5 year will be 2013, Year of Water Snake. I hope it will be like a more non- event number 5 years that had gone by with no worldly problems. However, the rumors has it that it may not be that peaceful. The rumors were started by the Mayans, who had a calendar system that was started in 13th August 3113 BC and they just ended their calendar on 21st December 2012. To them, it was useless to continue their calendar because they had predicted some major catastrophe. Their time calculation is also based on a cyclical concept and their one cycle is 5,125.4 years. Their end date coincides with their 13th baktun cycle. Notice the number 13? To the Mayans, the crucial year will be 2012 but for Chinese metaphysicians, it is more likely events that developed earlier and by 2013, the year with the unlucky number 5 star and Year of Water Snake that is a year to be careful about. But this book is not about the 2012 year or its predictions. I just wanted to show that energy physics is so important to understand everything. If energy is the universe, then our body, also thriving on energy, must follow some basic principle or plan, and medicine today has not accepted energy like the yogi, shaman, Taoist or Buddhist. The energy that modern medicine understand are the likes of calorie, the biochemical Krebs cycle and electron transfer chain, chemicals like phosphates and oxidation – reduction potentials. But how much did these knowledge contribute to the over all understanding of human physiology? According to the scientists, a lot and they get the Noble Prize for their discoveries. According to me, nothing much while great eastern masters who had discovered greater truths were left unknown and not much appreciated. A more recent example, since many people have so short memories, is the act of terrorism in Pakistan on 3rd March 2009 where some dozen or so men ambushed and killed six police escorts of the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team and the brave bus driver. They had used rifles, grenades and rocket launches in the attack. The cricketers were lucky to have escaped death but seven players, an umpire and a coach were wounded in the attack. It shocked every one. On that day, the energy was very bad as it is known as the year breaker. This was of course world news. But locally in Malaysia, something of historic importance occurred. The dispute of which is the legal state government of Perak state came to a dizzy height. The voted state assembly had to conduct their emergency meeting under the rain tree as they were being prevented to enter the State Secretariat by the authorities that were bestowed by the state Sultan. This had never happened before and was a sad day for all. This was at national level but the malevolent energy of the day had also acted in the local scene in the town where I stay. There was a bad motor vehicular accident on the road near my place and the accident victim’s blood was spilled over the road. This example of bad occurrences on the same day at world, national and local levels showed that the Chinese calendar has more information than many will know. The above discussions on the measurement of time by the various cultures have touched on several aspects. However I wish to relate my special experience of time in an incident. This time, time was slowed down. It was back in the years when I was in our local university as an under graduate. I was on my motorbike and was rushing back to the hostel for lunch. I took a short cut in the campus and negotiated a sharp bend and suddenly I saw a car right in front of me. I had no time to react to avoid a sure accident. However something strange happened. I then saw everything in slow motion – I saw myself being hit by the car and I flew into the air and was flying straight into the windscreen of the car. I could see the driver holding both arms up to protect himself. Then, as suddenly this vision came, it disappeared and I found myself still on my bike, it was then that I sensed I could avoid the deadly accident and tried my luck- at the last moment, I managed to swerve my bike to the left, at the same time the driver also realized it was possible to evade impact and he swerved to the opposite direction, and we missed by inches. I am sure that many others had reported or experienced the slowing of time. Now that we know energy is all that is to life, let me discuss other forms of energy regarded as healing. This then is more close to the subject of cancers than about wars and natural disasters.
