Without Family Ties

Georgina walked past Ray’s apartment three times. She decided it wouldn’t be wise to tell him of her predicament until she knew for sure. Just as she decided to leave, Ray came around the corner. “Hello, imagine meeting you here.” He said. “You avoid me for weeks and then you show up on my door step. To what do I owe this visit?” Ray said. “Well, actually, I was just leaving.” Georgina said. “Don’t go so soon, you just got here.” Ray said. “I’ve been walking around the block for almost an hour now, getting up the courage to come talk to you. Then I decided this was a mistake and I had better leave. I’ve had a change of heart.” Georgina said. “Boy, now that’s just not fair. I didn’t even get a chance to make you mad and you are leaving. Obviously you have something on your mind. Come in we’ll talk.” Ray said. “I don’t know where to start.” Georgian said. “How about the beginning, that’s always a good place.” Ray said. “Thanks, I really feel welcome now.” Georgina said. Ray wasted no time comforting Georgina. “I haven’t seen you in almost 3 weeks. Let me take your coat. Would you like a drink?” Ray said. “No, but let me get straight to the point before I chicken out. I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant.” Georgina said. Ray dropped his glass and sat down quickly. “Okay, well, I guess my first question is, is it mine?” Ray said. “I don’t know whose it is? I want it to be Glen’s, but I can’t be sure. This changes everything.” Georgina said as she started to cry. “Look, I don’t care whose it is. Let me marry you now, before anybody figures out you were pregnant before you were married.” Ray said. “I can’t do that to Glen, he needs to know. He doesn’t know about us. He thinks you have been history for a long time and that he is the only one I have been with. He would surely raise this baby and never question it.” Georgina said. “Then why did you come to me?” Ray said. I needed to talk to someone and I can’t tell my family, not yet. Not till after Joanna’s wedding. I have been to a Doctor, but I don’t know for sure unit I stop by to get the lab results on Friday. In a way I hope there is something else wrong with me. But I truly doubt it.” Georgina cried.
