THE SIGHTING “Wow! Just think,” Penny said, “A visitor from heaven here on the earth.” Mom served a piece of cake to Dad and pointed. “Take a look outside. The sunset is beautiful. If I could paint, I’d have a scene like this one hung in the living room. See how many pretty colors.” Penny began to count, “Red, blue, yellow, purple….. Wait a minute. Look! There’s something moving on the far side of the pond. I’ll press my face close to the window and see if I can tell what it is. It’s not clear. It’s too dark to identify. Whatever it is, it’s white. Now it disappeared! Wait…. There it is again.” “It is white,” Paul said. “It’s too big to be a cat. Hey, maybe it’s Grandma’s dog Prince.” “Here, scoot over and let me see,” Dad said. He wiped the steamed pane with his sleeve and strained to see the object. “If it’s Grandma’s white German shepherd we’ll be able to call him. Still, it seems to hop, and it doesn’t move like old Prince.” Dad opened the door and whistled, “Come ‘ere Prince... come ‘ere, old fella.” Nothing came or answered his call. Whatever they had seen was no longer visible. Penny turned to Paul. “What do you think it is Paul?” “Maybe it’s Ula’s spook. It floats by the swamp,” he teased.
