About the Book

Sean O'Reilly is caught smuggling Potcheen and is imprisoned in Crumlin road prison  where he meets Paddy McCormick, a small time crook. On his release Sean returns to his pig farm, which is situated on a rented ex RAF airfield in Northern Ireland. The farm has been looked after by Sean's girl friend during his captivity. They marry and have three sons.
The airfield is eventually acquired cheaply from the British government.  Over the ensuing fifty years this  property is built up into a prosperous business empire with the assistance of two friends, Bill Fraser who joins Sean as business advisor, and Bill's boss John Shepherd. They are both bankers.
These 'friends' turn out to be not quite what they seem. Bill, as Sean's finance director together with John Shepherd, systematically defraud the company's pension funds of millions of pounds during these successful years.
These crooks are found out when Sean's sons take over the running of the business. They  expose the fraudulent activity.

Meanwhile, the potcheen business in which Paddy McCormick is involved gathers 'great strength' with the discovery of a way to increase the alcohol content. Eventually the distillery is legally licenced  thereby providing another fortune attracting the attention of the crooks.

The O'Reilly family track down the fugitives and force retribution !

About the Author

Observation of animal behaviour during early working years as the manager of a pig breeding unit highlighted the individuality of these intelligent charming creatures. Their antics resulted in an affection for them which has not diminished with the passage of time. The characteristics of these animals and the individuals who helped look after them have left an indelible imprint on my mind around which the tale developed. Unlike the narrative, my own farming experience did not develop into a way of making a substantial living! The lack of a promising financial future persuaded me to change the direction of my life. My hobby of drawing and painting local scenes proved popular with the public. As a result this hobby became a profession. The remaining thirty five years of employment was devoted to this other love of my life. On my retirement, in order to channel my vivid imagination writing became an obvious new hobby. As a result 'Sharing the Trough' was born. Born in 1937, educated in the West Midlands of England.. After completing my National Service in the Royal Air Force I met my lovely wife Jackie and we moved to the Isle of Man. where I combined farming with art. Jackie and I have a son and daughter, both are married and have generously provided us with four grand-children between them.
