You are not even going to be here to see your only daughter off to the school, you went to, I went to and your grandmother went to, for her first time. But then again, why should you care, you’ve never taken her anyplace. So why should you are if she was going away to school? Everywhere the poor girl has even been, your father and I have taken her. Occasionally you were there to say good bye, not often, but once in awhile. And you’re starting with Bradley. He’s no trouble and JR just might be glad to see him.” Josie started to interrupt, but her mother wouldn’t give her a chance. She kept on talking as if her daughter hadn’t tried to speak, “Josie, don’t do this to the boy. Give him a chance. Take him with you. He just might have a little fun. He works hard enough on that farm. Who knows, you might enjoy having the boy with you and the boys just might enjoy being together. I’m sure John wouldn’t object.”

About the Book
Set in the first part of the twentieth century, A Jitney Ride tells the story of Emma Adele Gray, a young and courageous Southern woman struggling to find her way in the world after she is emotionally abandoned by a mother who never wanted her in the first place. Despite everything, surrounded by the love of her extended family, Emma grows up into a lovely, well-traveled, and educated woman who is hated by only one person—her mother’s brother. Will Daniels abhors Emma simply because his parents unconditionally love her and blame him for not becoming a brilliant success like his father. As Emma turns sixteen and is immersed in a relationship with Dev, a senior at Harvard, Will makes it his mission to even the score with both her and his parents before Emma leaves for three years to attend Miss Habersham’s Academy for Young Ladies in Atlanta, Georgia. While Emma nurtures her dream of becoming an attorney, Will is devising a betrayal like no other. In this coming-of-age tale, a woman proves to the world that with a little determination, intelligence, and Southern charm, she can achieve anything.
About the Author
Jeane Sellers Lenzini was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and met her future husband at a church youth bowling league. Together, they raised three children. Now widowed, she lives in Oakland, Tennessee, where she enjoys attending church and serving as a board member at a senior center. This is her first novel.
