About the Author
Arch Bristow, born in 1882 in New Brighton, PA, moved to Garland, PA, with his family at age nineteen. After attending a school of caricature in New York City, he began drawing the cartoon “Zimmie” which was syndicated nationally. He returned to Garland where he married Grizelle Andrews; they had three daughters. In 1916, he wrote the “Arch Bristow Column” (“ABC”) for the Warren Evening Times. He published The Hay Rake Magazine in the 1920’s but returned to newspaper writing in the 1940’s, producing a column, “The Sage of Garland,” for the Erie Morning News until shortly before his death in 1964.
