I was skiing fast. I don’t know how fast, but it was fast. I love speed. I always say, the faster the better. Austin was close behind me. As I started to get close to the bottom of the run, I could see the chair. I knew that I was going to make the lift. I also knew that the day was over, or so I thought. As I got closer to the chair, I decided to slow down. As I came up from my tuck, my ski got caught in a rut, and popped off, which is normal during a fall. I flipped into the air like a rag doll. When I landed, my other ski popped off causing me to flip a second time. When I landed from my second flip, my knee hit the binding of my ski. I went head over heels. As I was going head over heels, my pole which didn’t slide off my wrist like it’s suppose to, stabbed me in the ribs. I suddenly felt several cracks in my rib cage. As I came to a stop, I found myself lying on the snow. I was not breathing, and I was spitting up blood. At first, I thought the blood was coming from my mouth. I thought that I bit my lip, or tongue. I then started to realize that I was bleeding from my lung. I was able to slowly roll to my knees. Once on my knees, I started to feel weird. I hadn’t had a single breath of air for almost a full minute. I started to feel like I was going to die. I wasn’t afraid, nor was I ready.

It was a beautiful day. There was fresh powder on the mountain because it had snowed the night before. Olympic hopeful Aubrie Mindock and her brother Austin were out flying down the mountain when all of a sudden Aubrie took a fall. She was thrown in the air like a rag doll. Her ski pole stabbed her in the lung, causing ribs to break and her to stop breathing. Seconds felt like hours and Aubrie laid motionless on the snow, fighting for air. Finally she was able to take her first breath but she was still not out of the woods. Aubrie's right knee was crushed, making it hard to get to safety. My goal is to raise $45,000 from book sales, which will save 4500 kids from gangs, drugs, teen pregnancy and a life on the street and help the children graduate from high school and go on to college. I was raised in a good home with a good family and I've seen kids who come from broken homes with no opportunity to succeed.
