My own adventures seemed hard in ways and a lot of good in other ways. My mother had the measles when I was born and that caused some weak starts in my life. It may have had something to do with the fact that I was always the runt of the litter and had to work twice as hard as the bigger kids. When my father and my grandmother died the same year, it caused me some anguish and probably some attitude problems. Then if you add in the Great Depression, it is a recipe for disaster. Or, if you want to look at it another way, it is a recipe for adventure and challenges.

May you enjoy this glimpse of the past and the thoughts and actions of an undisciplined, unsupervised little boy growing up in an era of history marked by many of the same fears and obstacles little boys and their families are facing today.
About the Author
Fascinated by the stories of my Dad's childhood, I wanted to preserve them for my children and grandchildren to appreciate. It seems that no matter how the world changes, the challenges people face remain the same with each generation's special needs. I see my grandchildren trying to become adults and know they will draw courage from the trials their grandfather endured in his search for life. I live in Oregon not far from where I was born, which was on the gold mine on Sterling Creek.
