Lesson 7 Biblical Character: Joseph Scripture Text: Genesis 37-49 Memory Verse: Genesis 46:3 Lesson Outline: • Background – Joseph was one of Jacob’s sons. His father liked him best of his children, so he made Joseph a special multi-colored coat. So his brothers hated him. • Story – One night Joseph had two dreams about his family bowing down to serve him. He told his family about the dreams and they all got angry. One day Joseph went looking for his brothers. When they saw him coming, they planned to get rid of him. Some wanted to kill him, and but Judah convinced them to sell Joseph to some travelers instead. The travelers took him to Egypt to sell him. Joseph’s brothers took his special coat, smeared it with blood and lied to their father, saying an animal had eaten Joseph. • Main Achievement - Later, after many years in Egypt, Joseph saved his whole family and all Egypt from a terrible famine. • Good/Bad Character Traits – Bad: Joseph had pride when he was young. Good: he later served God with patience through many hard years in Egypt. Prayer Focus: Deliverance out of problems • Praise – Thank you that you deliver us from trouble. • Repent – Forgive us for not always trusting you to take care of our problems. • Ask for Others – Help this world’s people to know you alone can solve all their problems. • Ourselves – Help us trust you more, even when it appears the situation won’t work out.

Curriculum Goals: To…
1. Overview the Bible, investigate and explore different stories and parts of New and Old Testaments through eyes of new Biblical characters each week.
2. Provide a single-lesson framework easily adjusted to different age levels and group sizes, using no outside materials.
3. Simultaneously teach and reinforce different Christian living concepts: Bible study, memorization,
praise and worship, prayer.
4. Promote active involvement in God’s Word through discussing, questioning, acting.5. Invite children to personal salvation in Jesus by making God’s Word meaningful, real, and exciting.
About the Author
Katy Collins was born in Joplin, MO and attended University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. She received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Teaching English as a Second Language, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching. After graduation in 2005, she worked as an Associate in Missions in Mexico City, Mexico and New Delhi, India. During her time in India, she taught 3 classes at Scism Christian Institute: Teaching Home Bible Studies, Survey of Scriptures, and Youth Ministry. She also taught Sunday School in a local church and home Bible studies in a house church. She now teaches in Indianapolis.
