Ingathering
I'll lift my face to feel the rain,
and gather purity.
I'll reach up to a mountain,
and gather strengh.
I'll listen to small children laugh,
and gather joy.
I'll see a storm in fury stalk the skies,
and gather exultation.
I'll let the wind whip through my hair,
and gather freedom.
I'll wait for dawn to sweep across the valley,
and gather hope.
I'll watch Day slip beyond the trees,
and gather peace.
I'll fill my eyes with a distant view,
and gather vision.
I'll hear a lovely song,
and gather beauty.
I'll streak across a meadow,
and gather youth.
I'll let the sun fuse my body to the earth,
and gather warmth.
I'll heed a simple sermon,
and gather faith.
I'll hold my dear ones near me,
and gather love.
Then if the time should come, per chance,
Then all these treasures seem beyond my reach,
I'll dip into the secret of my mind,
And find them, where I tucked them
On another day.

About the Author
Virginia “Ginny” Robinson French was born on December 5, 1915, in Clabber Bottom, Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1937 with a degree in journalism. Ginny married James C. French and together they raised eight children. They lived many years in Dundee, Illinois where Ginny directed the church choir and taught kindergarten in the local school district. After resigning from their jobs, Ginny and Jim served as missionaries in the West Indies for two years. They published one book, “Avoiding the Retirement Trap.” Ginny passed away on December 30, 2007.
