He could hear the thud of something suddenly dropping to the ground from the tree branches above him. Titu clawed at the ground, frantically dragging himself along the path as he felt the hairs on the back of his neck begin to rise. The thought of what might soon be his fate screamed in his mind.
The monstrous frame crept toward him, and Titu could taste his fear as the predator approached, but he could not conjure up the nerve to look behind him. Titu sorrowfully accepted what his ancestors felt should be his ill-timed demise. Trying to relax his body, he waited for what he knew would be a grim and agonizing departure.
A horrific scream was all that escaped his lips as the large razor-sharp fangs pierced into his old weathered skin just below the shoulder blades. His muscles began to spasm as his nervous system started shutting down. His last thought was of his people. He would not be able to help them. He felt guilt and shame at his failure.

A genetically engineered monster has escaped in the jungle, and this eight-legged killer is hungry for human blood. The lives of an entire village—and the lives of his team—are in Tolson’s hands. About the Author
Sandy J. Clark was born and raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She attained the status of Poetry Ambassador in 2006 through the United States of America Poetry Ambassador Program and received a medal in her honor. Sandy is also the author of a children’s book called Bully Robin Redbreast.
