About the Book
Short Stories or Tall Tales? Joyce Buller has incorporated her past with her imagination to create engaging episodes in Home Groan. From an unforgettable perfume to an uneatable sweet roll, her stories are the best, like the ones you could write, if you would! Included are anecdotes of living on top of a hill in northern Missouri with eight children, a mom living in a tent in the backyard, Grandma’s shivaree, a dangerous ornery brother, and more.
About the Author
Sharing stories with her children or her classes has always shown Joyce Buller what enjoyment they bring. Now she has written about the people of the twentieth century, before work and television took so much of our time, before we forgot to include mother-nature in our lives, when our family ate popcorn out of homemade newspaper bowls and we had time to tell a story. “My dad taught us kids to enjoy watching people as entertainment while we sat in the car waiting for Mom to finish shopping. He made up stories about the people walking along the sidewalks based on how they looked, along with his vivid imagination and sense of humor. Of course he always laughed the loudest at his own jokes. Likewise, I have enjoyed writing these stories for you. Some are true stories I thought were worth recording, others are fiction, based on facts or statements from a family member or from my own memory. I hope you enjoy them.” This book was written specifically for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews who know the people in these stories, or who just missed knowing them, darn it! Joyce Buller lives in southern Louisiana where her husband runs a snowball stand and they are retired teachers. She talks daily with her many children and relatives close and far away on the phone or online. She writes on the side.
