The young woman first caught Miles' attention when she stepped into Pappy’s Sweet Shop on the lower level of the University’s Memorial Union. It was a Monday, the first day of the fall term, but autumn seemed so far away on this sweltering August afternoon. He was prepping for Genetics 510, the course he was to teach in two hours. She was a raw beauty with the most beautiful pair of brown eyes. The moment she entered the place she drew attention from everywhere, but she either didn’t notice or she was accustomed to it. As she moved past Hugo’s table to take her place in line for an ice cold cappuccino, she smiled at him. It was an electrifying smile that pulsed with voltage and left an afterglow. Nice teeth, he marveled. A minute later he looked up from his papers and saw her glancing back at him as she waited for her frothy order at the counter. It was a shy smile this time as if to admit she’d been caught looking. When she came in he could tell by the confident way she carried herself that she was an upperclassman. He had been on campus for several years as well. Was she thinking the same thing he was? How had their paths not crossed before? The young woman’s smile broadened suddenly and the retro diner exploded with a radiant light that was channeled into the narrowest of beams. The laser bore into Miles with a warmth he had never before experienced. Somehow he had to find out who this gorgeous creature was. But before he could, other customers suddenly blocked his view and when they moved, she was gone.

About the Author
Gregory Klink has worked in the advertising and video production fields for many years. He has written several screenplays. He is an avid photographer and accomplished poet. This is his first novel. He is a graduate of Purdue University, where he met and married his college sweetheart, Pamela Smith. They have four children.
