About the Book

Norman, a former urinal splash guard salesman now begrudgingly selling vacuums door-to-door, and Jason, the last surviving male Strykowski in charge of preserving the family name, are not who they think they are. In fact they are the same person. Norman and Jason are among hundreds of other lost souls who together unknowingly make up the same misguided memories of an Alzheimer’s patient named Atom. Told from the perspective of the distorted and lost memories of an Alzheimer’s patient trying to find their way back to memory lane, ATOM documents one’s life’s TripTik into an unfamiliar barren wasteland, where diseased memories with identity crises fight a losing battle for their existence and a longing to be remembered. His name was Atom, pronounced like God’s first attempt at man, but spelled like a chemist’s scientific rebuttal. Atom suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. Learning this fact about him was already more than he would ever know about himself. Files once stored in his long-term memory bank vanished as if they were his ninth grade locker combination. The memories were there, they were simply being played by different actors who weren’t comfortable in the role. Locked away at he South Cove Manor Nursing Home, Atom’s only hobby was staring out he begrimed window of his room while his mind was always left behind to wonder and wander. Rebecca, Atom’s private nurse at he home, refused to submit to the notion that memories needed to be returned as if they were overdue borrowed library books. For seven long years, she was determined to have Atom remember his past to legitimize her own. In one final desperate attempt for a cure, Rebecca escaped the nursing home with Atom and embarked on a seemingly impossible adventure to hunt down the lost and disguised memories of an Alzheimer’s patient. Rebecca would soon realize that it’s sometimes better to forget.
