My original intention after I finished Medical School and Residency, was to enter the private practice of medicine somewhere. Somehow this track never came about, derailed by diverting circumstances and choices which put me into Academic Medicine before I realized what was happening I encountered many memorable patients, mostly Infectious Diseae but others as well. I also experienced the medical school from the inside out, did much teaching which I loved and administrative duties whichI did not.

About the Book
From a childhood exposed to public health to his career as a doctor, the author follows a wandering path from internal medicine to infectious diseases, preventive medicine, outpatient clinics, and public health. Along the way he encounters patients with rare or unusual twists, earns scars from the War against Poverty, and has memorable experiences with students of the Emory School of Medicine, where he was Chairman of the Department of Preventive Medicine. In addition he helped establish the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. He retired in 1990. Few, if any of these experiences were planned. He found that many were accidental, some were unwelcome, but all were rewarding in the end.
In What’s Up, Doc?, Dr. Sellers shares the ups and downs of his forty-four year career in medicine.
About the Author
Thomas F. Sellers, Jr. M.D. lives in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from the medical school at Emory University in1950, where he helped establish the School of Public Health and was its Chairman of Preventive Medicine until retirement in 1990. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children and nine grandchildren.
