Quickly, the killer sliced Jake’s hand, forcing Castillo to drop his gun. “Bitch!” Castillo growled, grabbing his hand in pain. He recovered quickly and jumped inside. The killer tried to jam the blade in Jake’s stomach, but Castillo grabbed his wrists and stopped the strike. The two men struggled for the weapon, slamming one another against the walls of the descending elevator. The killer rammed his head into Jake’s face, sending the detective reeling to the ground. Mercilessly, the killer began to stomp on Castillo, kicking him in the ribs and head. By the time the elevator reached the lobby, the detective was semi-conscious. The killer lifted the detective up by his jacket and smiled.
“Remember, Detective,” he said fiendishly, lifting Jake’s chin up with the tip of his blade, “Every time you look into the mirror, every time you are with those you love…I want you to remember that you’re alive only because I let you live. But don’t worry, Jake…Your time is coming.”
The doors opened, and the killer walked out of the elevator. Castillo’s battered body slumped to the floor. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t think. The killer walked out of the building, and everything began to get dark...

About the Book
Jake Castillo is a New York City detective on the down and out. Born in the Bronx, NY and raised on the streets of Queens, Geraldo Cruz studied Forensic Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice while cultivating his passion for writing. He currently resides in New York City.
