Parenting with a Plan

A child MUST know that they are fully accepted by the parent/guardian before a healthy self-esteem is established. Labeling a child in his early years will be most destructive to a child’s positive self-esteem if it is not checked. Labeling is words spoken over a child that identifies them as either good or bad. Let me give you an example. Would you make the following statements to your child? Labeling a child in his early years will be most destructive to a child’s positive self-esteem if it is not checked.  You’re an idiot  This is my little devil  My child is as mean as a snake  Here comes trouble  You’re just ugly and no good  You’re damaged goods  You meat head  You nerd (meaning stupid)  You’ll never amount to anything You may think that you’re doing no damage, but that child will internalize those words. If you as an adult said it, they will believe what you say and take it as true. They will literally say within them, “Dad and mom said it, so I believe it”. You as a parent/guardian have just planted a negative seed in your child’s mind that can keep that child from growing to their fullest potential in life. It can create a kind of drag on their achievements in life. If you are doing this to your child, then shame on you. Turn your words around. Say to that child the following:  You’re so smart  You’re my little angel  You’re as gentle as a lamb  Here comes my little peacemaker  You’re handsome (boy)/You’re beautiful (girl)  You’re a wonderful product of my life  You’re intelligent  You’re my little flower  You’re my little rainbow full of color  One day you’ll be a great person If you do this, you are saying to your child, “I value your life. You are worth more to me than money or gold”. Believe me, your child will feel the positive energy of these words, and begin to grow and blossom like a rose in a rose garden.
