NOT ONLY EXPLORERS A corporate commercial, in post-Columbian context, celebrates us human beings as explorers. We are not only explorers. We are also seekers of a different sort. We seek to discover truths and values and moral principles. We seek to validate them--and ourselves. In a post-Enlightenment context. Exploring and seeking and discovering and validating-- each is more than a method for us, more than a process, more than an appeal to a single aspect of being human. In our attempts to understand, exploring and seeking and discovering and validating not only places and particles, but also truths and values and moral principles animate us and compel us. Together they define our becoming and our being.

Arranged in eight sections, the thirty-eight poems in the author’s second book of poetry encompass the variety of human experience, portraying people not only as explorers of places and particles, but also as seekers of truths and values and moral principles. The images are fresh and striking—even as the poems consider not-necessarily-new themes of natural beauty, of permanence and impermanence, of love and growth and acceptance, and of faith and reason.

About the Author
John S. McClenahen, born in Ohio and a resident of Virginia for more than forty years, is an award-winning journalist, now retired, whose writing these days is focused on poetry and American cultural history. His first book of poetry, Eight Mile: Selected Poems, was published in 2008.
