About the Author

Donald L. Cotner received a bachelor's degree in architecture and a master of science degrees in structural engineering from Oklahoma State University. He is active in VFW and the 9th Bomb Group reunions. He lives with his wife of 67 years, Jean Cotner, in San Juan Capistrano, California.

Written in a unique first person present format and making extensive use of dialogue and narrative detail, Mr. Cotner?s book has the ?you are there? feel of well written historical fiction. In this age of laser guided bombs and remote control drones, Mr. Cotner gives the reader a new appreciation of the technical expertise and courage of WWII flight crews. Flying overloaded aircraft over thousands of miles of trackless ocean, without the aid of modern navigational instruments, every mission could potentially end in disaster. A brutally honest work, this book does not portray Mr. Cotner and his comrades as heroic stereotypes, but as frightened young men who wanted nothing more than to survive and go home to their wives and sweethearts.
