About the Author

Earl A. Reitan is Prof Emeritus of History at Illnois State University, Normal. His special interests are the political and cultural history of eighteenth-century England. He is married and lives with his wife, Carol, in Normal IL, where they have resided for fifty-five years. They have two children: Julia of San Francisco and Thomas of Cleveland OH. They have two grandchildren, William and Mary of Cleveland. They have travelled extensively in England. Earl is a Purple Heart veteran of World War II. He grew up in Minnesota in the Depression.
