Tin Man
The Tree of Life is withering,
Its roots are now beneath a concrete sea,
Endless fields and meadows of lush green,
Are now the condos of New York City,
The rays of the sun were once worshipped,
Now, that Power has passed to General Electric!
Vogue says “Gray is the New Green,”
But, that is merely the defense in the criminal case for the machine;
For the murder of Mother Earth,
But, who will attend her funeral?
When she goes,
We all will go,
With one fatal swift blow,
Not with a bang remember,
Just a whisper,
Or, is it a whimper?
The metal box,
Has taken the soul of humanity,
Has made it possible to communicate;
From China to the intergalactic galaxy,
Yet, we are still left hollow inside,
Because we all stay behind,
A Micro-soft plasma window,
Where our emotions are even more microscopic,
Between the fields upon fields of fiber optics!
“Give the Tin Man a Heart” Dorothy says,
But, will he take it from Man or Mother Nature instead?

About the Author

Sherrie was born, raised, and educated in Florida. She is the daughter of a patient care provider and the youngest of four children whom descend from an Afro-Caribbean-American background. From an early age Sherrie showed remarkable promise in Literature and The Natural Sciences. She received countless awards and recognition throughout her academic career for her science abilities and literary achievements. In 2004 she was the recipient of the River Cities Gazette’s Outstanding English Student Award and was nominated as Miami Springs Senior High Sliver Knight in the English Category.
