The Road to Whatever

The cessations of suffering is attainable; this Buddha’s way of saying “Get over it…” And yes, we actually can get over it! The wonderful news about the nature of our suffering is that we can attain the cessation of suffering. If we become enlightened we can control our suffering by learning how to control our desires. We can manage to bring our suffering to an end. In order to do this we must undergo nirodha, which means to undo our cravings and our attachments; this can be achieved through a series of meditation techniques that take us back through every experience and every desire that we have ever felt until we get to the source of our suffering. Who knows how far back that can be? Any how Nirodha is something like letting things go kind of like “whatever”; you go back, you experience it, you make amends and you let it go. After that our desires become less powerful a good example would be like knowing there’s something behind door number one but moving on without stopping to have to look because we are already content with what we have. Isn’t that liberating? To know there is something there but being content enough with ourselves and our own spirituality that whatever maybe behind door no. 1 won’t change us. Nirodha basically extinguishes all forms of wants and desires. The formula to overcoming our suffering is by attaining dispassion towards our desires in other words the cessation of suffering is to “Get over it!”
