When we reached our favorite fishing spot, we spread out a blanket, sat down on the hard, lumpy ground and began to assemble our fishing poles. I watched the gray sky, which was getting brighter by the moment, as we kept up a friendly banter. Once the eastern horizon began to glow with an orange-red hue, we laid our poles aside to watch nature's show. We sat close to each other, hugging our knees against the cold, as we waited for the sun to rise. I shivered. Brad looked at me. “Are you cold?” “Just a bit,” I said, rubbing my arms. He put his arm around me, and I snuggled closer to him. He gave me a little squeeze, and I happily laid my head on his shoulder. In turn, he rested his head on mine. I scarcely noticed the beautiful scene in front of me as the sun rose above the mountains. The feel of Brad’s warm breath on the side of my face distracted me. When the sun was up, I looked at him, and he peered down at me. I thought I could feel his heartbeat quicken, and I was sure he could hear my heart beating wildly. I pulled away from him a bit, and he tenderly touched my chin. I smiled with anticipation as he slowly brought his face closer to mine. Just as our lips were about to touch, I heard voices close by. Brad pulled away, much to my dismay.

As Brad swept up the mess, I admired his muscular body. Suddenly, I was filled with a longing to have his arms around me.
"No," I thought to myself angrily, looking away from him. "I've got to let this fantasy of mine go. If Brad knew I was in love with him, our friendship would be ruined!"
Thoughts like these plagued Sarah soon after her eighteenth birthday after she and her best friend, Brad, almost kissed. Since the day they had become friends, they had been teased that they would one day fall in love, but Sarah had always laughed at the idea.
How could she be in love with Brad? She didn't know, but she was convinced that Brad didn’t feel the same way. She knew she had to keep it a secret and forget about her feelings.
To keep her mind off Brad, she decided to find a new boyfriend right away. Her chance came at the next dance, where she ran into Kevin, who was her first serious crush and who had moved away years ago. Kevin was the perfect distraction, or so she thought. Little did she know what terrifying and exciting events were about to happen.
