About the Book

Enter the world and mind of a young man who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a fatal genetic neuromuscular disorder that he battles with his incredible sense of humor, warm heart, and awe-inspiring passion for life. Calling this the master's thesis he never wrote, Josh Winheld's self reflection and candor teaches us all valuable life lessons. Find out why Worth the Ride is well worth a read. All proceeds from this book will go directly to Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, which works to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne muscular dystrophy through research, advocacy, education, and compassion.

About the Author

Josh Winheld was born in March, 1978, a healthy boy by all appearances. Less than five years later, he was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a fatal genetic disorder that causes the skeletal and heart muscles to progressively weaken and for which there is no treatment or cure. Typically, those with DMD live until their mid 20s. Despite being in a wheelchair since he was 10 years old and requiring a ventilator to breathe for the past several years, Josh has chosen to live life as "normally" as possible. Mainstreamed through public schools in suburban Philadelphia, he went on to graduate summa cum laude from Temple University with a journalism degree. Now in his 30s, he is working on a master's degree in urban studies, with a focus on accessible housing for people with disabilities.
