I went down to the beach to lay down on the sand and just stare up at the moon as it hit the open tides with its perfect glare. As I was just about to close my eyes and dream off, Sarah snuck up behind me covering my eyes with her hands saying, “Guess who?” She gave me three guesses. My response was; the tooth fairy, Jennifer Love Hewitt, or the girl of my dreams. She released me, tilted my head back, and just before she kissed me she said, “Bingo. She apparently saw me from the boardwalk and wondered what I was doing out there. I guess she was able to see right through me to sense that I needed some cheering up. So I decided to explain everything that I was feeling towards her. I told her that it was dragging me out that I never had any time to myself. That even though I thought spending time down the shore for summer would be awesome, that it really wasn’t. All my freedom went into catering people that didn’t even tip me good and continuously got on my nerves. My goals weren’t exceeding my expectations. Then I told her when I first laid my eyes on her that she really awakened me into realizing that money isn’t everything for me this summer. Sarah made me realize and even more than that, brought to life what I always wanted and a girl I always wanted to see myself with. Sarah didn’t know how to reply after I said everything. She knew I was into her, but didn’t realize the effect that she actually had on me. I think it made her feel as though she does a lot to people when she’s not even thinking about what is around her. Looking back at her long trail of footprints, I noticed she began to get a chill. So I put my jacket around her as though we were both sitting in a 1950’s movie of dreams fulfilled. Her hair was blowing from the winds that gave off peaceful tides, as we looked up at the fireworks like tourist guides. After the fireworks were done we decided to just remain still. It was though the atmosphere was so right. We kept our eyes peeled up at the stars. She counted eighteen as I counted twenty two, right as a shooting star sped into our field of view. She saw it as a night to remember, but I saw it as a future sign as we looked into each others eyes one more time. She left me with a lasting kiss that has always somehow remained imprinted on my lips. I woke up the next day to the loudest alarm clock ring ever. Only realizing that it was just another new day ready to get up and begin my daily school regime.

About the Book
Trials and Triumphs is the first book of collected works written by Brad Dwyer. This novel takes the reader through the fictional lives of varying characters, demonstrating the hardships and ultimate successes that we all experience on a daily basis, but are too faint-hearted to write down. The book takes you on a first person journey in the lives of fictional characters, who in reality are the people that live inside all of us. Whether it is about a high school love in "Parallel Lines" to a traveled life long dream in "Summer Pitch," this book can really inspire oneself on a visionary road into stories that are out in the world somewhere, but are just not captured yet.
About the Author
Brad Dwyer grew up in Northeast Philadelphia. His writing career took place during his later years at Northeast High School. Brad started to take an interest in writing during his junior year. His English teacher, began a quarter lesson on poetry and it motivated him to put his feelings and emotions into rhyming stanzas. As time has passed on and Brad has continued his educational path through college, he has now turned those poetic words into visionary love stories. Although this is Brad’s first book, he hopes that it will lead him on a journey that will allow him to further a career in the literary world. The most impressive thing about this young man is that his whole life has always been goal oriented. When times and moments have challenged him, he has persevered in continuing to establish himself as a good son, brother and close friend to those that are around him. Brad has dedicated this novel to his one grandmother that died in 1996. He feels that without her in the early stages of his life, that he wouldn’t have acquired some of the great lessons that have made him into what he is to this day. Brad Dwyer is a very passionate individual and with the mind set that lives inside of him, all of his goals in life can be attained and achieved in the future years to come.
