About the Book

This book contains the background information and laboratory exercises to accompany an undergraduate level course in radio astronomy. The observations are made using a Small Radio Telescope (SRT). The SRT was developed at MIT Haystack Observatory and is now sold as an inexpensive kit which provides everything necessary to introduce users to the amazing world of radio astronomy.

About the Author

Laura A. Whitlock is Assistant Professor of Physics at Louisiana State University in Shreveport. After many years as a high-energy astrophysicist on various NASA projects, she turned her talents to education. She now teaches a variety of courses in physics and astronomy. After attending the NSF Chautauqua Course “Radio Astronomy in the Undergraduate Classroom” at MIT Haystack Observatory in 2004, she became inspired to learn more about the subject and develop a lecture-lab course in it for the students at LSUS. Kiley Pulliam is a first-year graduate student in Physics at Tulane University in New Orleans. She graduated with a BS in Physics and minors in Mathematics and Philosophy from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. She became involved in this project while taking a Radio Astronomy course taught by Dr. Whitlock.
