When they arrived in the Bahamas, Leigh ordered room service because she did not want to join the others. After dinner she looked at a movie. The room was cool from the air condition so she went under the covers. Some time later there was a knock on the door. Leigh opened her eyes gazing at the television then she realized the knocking was not from it. She slowly got off the bed and walked to it.
“Who is it?”
“It’s Stacy you sleepy head, open the door.”
Leigh opened the door. “Stacy?”
“It’s time to get up. Paul told me to let you sleep a little longer, but you know me, I had to wake you.”
“What time is it?”
“Seven thirty in the morning.”
“What!” Leigh walked over to the nightstand, picked up her watch and looked at the time. “You guys had dinner already?”
“Yes and we are about to have breakfast. It’s Friday morning.”
“I can’t believe it. You know I’m normally up before six everyday. I guess I’m having a restful weekend.”
“You deserve it. I’m glad you decided to come.”
“I’m happy to be here because I don’t have to worry about work. I can stay in bed and watch TV.”
“You are not staying in bed for this weekend. Paul planned a weekend of fun. After breakfast we are going snorkeling. Paul rented a boat for the day.”
“Stacy you know that I’m afraid of the sea?”
“Leigh it’s a pleasure boat so you don’t have to stay on deck you could sit below.”
“Okay. I’m going to shower and dress.”
“Meet us in the restaurant in twenty minutes.”
“Twenty minutes?”
“Yes. We are having breakfast before we leave.”
“I’ll be there.”
Thirty-five minutes later Leigh was sitting in the restaurant having breakfast. There were seven people in their group and they all sat at the same table. Leigh felt uncomfortable because Phillip kept looking at her with a stupid smile on his lips.
“So Leigh, when are you going to make this group a perfect eight? We are all waiting for you to find a husband.”
“Phillip, when I find a man you will be the first to know.” Stacy and Paul stopped talking and looked at her. She knew that Stacy expected her to say more to Phillip and she smiled turning to Paul.
“Paul was it easy to get a boat?”
“I made the reservations before we left Miami.”
“I know you always plan ahead. Ralph I know that you and Julie will enjoy this trip.”
“Yes we will!” said Ralph excitedly.
Ralph and Julie was an elderly couple. This was their first trip to the Bahamas. Ralph had worked as a private investigator for Paul’s father from the inception of his law firm. Julie was very pleasant and she looked very happy and excited.
“I’m glad that Paul encouraged Ralph to make this trip. I have been trying to get him away from the office for many years, but I know he loves his job and doesn’t like to be away for a long period of time.”
“Honey we will enjoy this weekend. I know it’s time for me to retire and leave the business to the boys, so I will do that when I get back.”
“I’ve heard that before.”
Everyone laughed because they knew that Ralph was joking. After breakfast, they got on board a bus that took them to the marina. Paul introduced them to Captain Hunter and his crew of three and then they boarded the boat. Leigh followed the women below deck. The interior of the boat was fabulous.
“This is beautiful. My husband as usual did well,” said Stacy.
“It is and you are right,” said Leigh
“My father’s yacht is bigger and much more luxurious than this,” said Lana.
Leigh looked at Stacy and rolled her eyes. Stacy shook her head slightly to tell Leigh not to comment.
“Stacy I’m leaving on Sunday.”
“Why?” asked Julie.
“I have some things at work that need my attention.” Leigh wanted to add that she did not want to stay too long in Phillip and Lana’s company.
“Oh Leigh no wonder you don’t have a man. You spend your time working very hard. What are you trying to do, help your father’s company make the Fortune 500 list?”
