Emergence

Novawynd waved them into motion and the group waiting outside entered the shuttle-bay. The Cornithons had drawn their swords and it was well known that they were skilled enough to deflect axon beams with their blades. Novawynd saw Zoomer lying on the floor, decapitated. A Cornithon had gotten the drop on him. The Cornithons stood with their backs to each other, swords held in defensive shielding stance. The space-guard had taken cover. At this point, it would be impossible to get an axon shot off. They could only do damage with a more powerful Quanton gun or a DESS at this point. The Cornithons had left their contraband unguarded. When they saw Novawynd and Zefram, fear seeped into their hearts. Novawynd went straight to the container in which Trevor had been stowed. She used her metaband to detect whether or not the lock was booby-trapped. There was nothing unusual about the lock. She kicked the lock open and dumped Trevor out. He was bound and gagged, but conscious and unharmed. “Well, Tion Ex Glaberon,” she stood up and slowly sauntered over to the man known by that name. She kept a safe distance, however. “it would seem you are a pirate after all. Therefore, I have justification to terminate you immediately.” “Hah!” He threw his head up triumphantly guffawing. “I’d like to see you try, Lelumin koopak.” A koopak was a Cornithon dog, but it was much more of a creature of burden than any dog ever was. Calling someone a koopak was a horrible insult amongst Cornithons, but it just made Novawynd struggle to hold back a smile, because ‘koopak’ was kind of a silly word. “Okay” Novawynd obliged. She used her kinetic abilities to rip their swords from their hands. In a flash the swords returned to their owners, blades first. The Cornithons found themselves impaled by their own weapons before they could react. The swords had penetrated their abdomens, cutting clean through their descending aortas, with the exception of Tion Ex Glaberon. His blade narrowly missed his aorta. Glaberon’s entourage stared at Novawynd in disbelief through their glazing eyes. Glaberon pulled his sword out of his abdomen and charged at Novawynd with a howl. However, he had lost more stamina than he thought. His strength ebbed from him and the tip of his sword dropped to the ground just in front of Novawynd. She used the sword as a springboard, launching off it into a backwards flip, kicking him in the chin as she did so. His head snapped backwards and he flew back with a pain-induced groan. When Novawynd recovered her stance, she found him lying flat on his back. She picked up his sword, swirled it around deftly in her hand, gripped the hilt with both hands and brought it down where his neck met his chin. His head detached from his body. “That’s for Zoomer!” Novawynd announced.
