About the Book
PROZAC FREE PETS is written for pet owners who want to safely and permanently change negative emotional and behavioral patterns in their companion animals. This book is designed to offer alternatives to the increasingly frequent practice of using allopathic drugs to treat emotional imbalances in pets. Using two time-tested holistic treatments, Flower Essences and Homeopathy, author Kim Rockshaw, offers safe and simple solutions to seemingly complex problems. Written for those new to both forms of treatment, the reader is given an explanation and history of each healing modality, as well as treatment instructions, that insure success. Through the use of these treatments, solutions are suggested for minor and more complex behavioral issues: Past abuse, separation anxiety, aggression, fear, jealousy, grief, as well as personality changes due to physical trauma. A section on Behavior Modification also offers practical help for some of the most common feline and canine problems such as inappropriate elimination, property destruction and dominance issues.
About the Author
Kim Rockshaw, DIHom, BFRP is a degreed homeopath and flower essence practitioner living in So. California. Prior to becoming interested in holistic medicine, she was a highly successful professional musician. Then in 1988, she suffered a life changing illness that forced her to stop her career. At this time, when traditional, allopathic medicine offered no support or relief, she turned to Chinese medicine, homeopathy and supplements. As she healed she began working at a midwest animal shelter, where she later became the medical coordinator. During her time there, she started using holistic methods with some of the unhealthly animals, with amazing results. This fueled her interest and love of both working with animals and holisitc medicine. In addition, Ms. Rockshaw has worked at numerous veterinary clinics, owned her own pet sitting business and has been a guest speaker at various animal conferences. After moving to California, she began studying homeopathy and flower essences in earnest. She earned her degree from the British Institute of Homepathy and after completing intensive training with the Nelson Bach Foundation, she became a registered Bach Flower Essence Practitioner. In addtion, she has completed numerous classes in anatomy, physiology and other medical sciences. For almost a decade, Ms. Rockshaw has offered consultation services for animals, both in person and long distance. Working with homeopathy, herbs, supplements and nutrition, she tackles both acute and chronic physical imbalances. The many physical problems she treats range from skin conditions, arthritis, asthma, digestive problems, pancreas and liver disorders, hypo and hyper-thyroidism, urinary and kidney disease to vaccine related illness, and injuires or surgcial related trauma. (Ms. Rockshaw is not a licensed veterinarian and requests that all of her animal patients obtain a full exam, work up and proper diagnosis from their vet, before beginning holistic treatments with her.) Using essences and sometimes homeopathy, she also treats emotional and behavioral problems such as grief, jealousy, separation anxiety, aggression, feline inappropriate elimination, past abuse and trauma. Ms. Rockshaw is a member of the National Center for Homeopathy and HANP (Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians). In addition to her consultation practice, she has maintained a small, private, licensed, animal sanctuary for special-needs cats for the last 15 years. They are all treated extensively with holistic methods of healing.
