About the Book

Jerry, Catch your Plane on Time - Travels to the Middle East and Beyond - contains a series of personal anecdotes and stories observed and participated in by Jerry Shea, former President and CEO of the International Road Federation and the International Road Education Foundation.

It takes place over a 30 year period and highlights visits to some 12 countries in the Middle East, South Asia, Europe, South America and Africa. These include trips to Botswana, Lebanon, Poland, Nigeria, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, the Sinai and Turkey.

Jerry wanted to tell these stories so that his grandchildren would remember him and his career in the international road and highway fields.

About the Author

Gerald Shea, Jerry to family and friends, died at home in Hilton Head, SC, on April 9th, 2005, after a long battle with lung cancer. Before he knew he was ill, he lovingly started this book describing memorable incidents of his travels to the Middle East and beyond. He spent many happy hours working on it during his free time, and finished it the year before he died. When he knew he was dying, he asked his wife, Joan, to promise she'd publish it for family and friends after he was gone. He was a consulting engineer with Tibbetts, Abbott, McCarthy & Stratton for 15 years and with Louis Berger Group for 20 years, where he was a partner. After retiring in 1998 he was appointed President and CEO of the International Road Federation in Washington. Upon retirement in 2002 he was named an honorary life member of its Board of Directors and President of the International Road Federation's Education Foundation. In 2002 he was elected a member of the Board of Directors of Wilbur Smith Associates. He received a degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a masters degree in civil engineering from New York University. He received Notre Dame's College of Engineering Honor Award in 1995. He was a professional engineer in eight states and was also listed in Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in America. Hilton Head, South Carolina, November 2008
