About the Book

Tom Robb has crafted eight lively stories and plays full of interesting and loveable characters, delightful dialogue and happy endings! These tales (derived both from memory and imagination) are amusing as well as enchanting. The nostalgic touches and historic information are insightful and also of great value. In "Try", two lovers are separated by war and time but is that enough to end the bond between them? "That Magic Night In Hawaii" traces the relationship of Tony and Shirley after a chance meeting in 1948 at a phonebooth in Waikiki. What do a cowboy, Paris and the KGB have in common? Find out in "Jack Loves Lucy"! Judy, in "The Reluctant Groom", wants to remarry her husband but he has other ideas. Can Judy convince Herb to be hers again? When Bill's girlfriend Suzie leaves school in "Chelsea Girl" and returns to New York unexpectedly, Bill and Suzie's friend Chelsea embark on a journey to New York City together to find her. In "The Ticket", a winning lotter ticket is eaten by a neighbor's goat. Herb and Marge have no idea that the goat is the least of their problems. Coming to America via Ellis Island in 1920, Louisa and her brother are ready for a new life. In the insuing years the heroine of "Louisa" must choose between three eligable men and secure her dream job. Finally, in "River Road", Minnie Robb runs away from home. After getting a job on her uncle's showboat (historical family fact) she realizes that she is in love. Is it too late to return to the one she loves? Does he return her feelings? Has she been followed? The reader will marvel at how some things never do seem to change. Within these pages will be found struggling marriages, nosy neighbors, chivalry, runaways, criminals, job stress, private detectives, luck, fate, reconciliation and all the confusion of love.

About the Author

Tom Robb Began writing these 5 stories and 3 plays in 2003 at the age of 93. As this, his first book, goes to press, Tom is 98. He has always lived an exciting life, with a kind of "let's do it" approach. From a dramatic start in November 1910- he grew up picking cotton in the hot Texas sun and playing a hot trumpet for the Cooper Texas Band when the sun went down. His musical proclivity led him into numerous other bands, such as the Honey Grove Band, entertaining at social events throughout Delta County. Tom and a pal were recruited to play in the 144th Infantry Band out of Fort Worth for their encampment at Palacias, Texas in 1927 (the boys received special permission from the War Department to play for the Army at age 17). He headed a 15 member orchestra that played popular music on WFAA radio in Dallas. For one year he attended East Texas State in Commerce, Texas. Then, in 1930 he transferred to Southern Methodist University in Dallas and was part of the famous SMU Marching Band. Tom and his brothers worked hard, but lost no opportunity for fun and dating. From tower diving to biplane barnstorming rides to missing bridges and taking his jalopy for a dip in a river- it just never stopped! Cast into the world on his own in the midst of the Great Depression, he got a job chasing special deliveries for the U.S. Post Office; in 1933 he married his sweetheart (who had beaten him for the championship of the county spelling bee years before). I think his charm, for her, was not wanting to miss out on "what is this guy gonna do next"! Things were great in the late 30's; they started a family, bought a house and a Packard- and had the world by the tail. Then came WWII. Tom volunteered for the U.S. Navy and served in the Philippine Islands. After Japan surrendered, he returned to America aboard the carrier U.S.S. Ticonderoga and zig-zagged across the country on troop trains to knock unexpectedly at his home's door on Christmas Eve. With G.I. Bill in hand, Tom moved his growing family from Dallas to the "Land of Milk and Honey"-now widely known as California-, for a degree in Real Estate at CAL Berkeley. He's been in the area ever since. Always fun-loving and romantic, these period pieces came naturally to him and will amuse all who enjoy surprises, a laugh and ultimately a happy ending. Tom is currently polishing up his Memoirs of an exciting journey not yet finished.
