Don awakened at sunrise and stretched his large frame comfortably in bed. He felt good--damned good--and wondered why. As he reached for a cigarette, he realized that it was Sunday, and his good feeling expanded immediately into complete satisfaction. Sunday. Come hell or high water, Sunday was Sunday. His lighter sputtered as he lighted his cigarette and a stinging piece of flint feel on his chest. "Wish it'd start a forest fire," he thought, looking at the matted thicket of hair over his ribs that he despised. He'd often expected an owl or two to fly out of it, but none had yet. Soon, perhaps. "If I didn't take a bath for a week or two," he thought good humoredly.

About the Book
Tempest in a Teacup is the story of one man's journey from the hey-days of his youth to his acceptance of adulthood. Throughout the novel, set during the 1940s in rural southwestern Utah, Don Eliot struggles to resolve his aspirations for the future with the realities of life. He graduates from high school, World War II begins, and Don is selected to attend the U.S. Naval Officers Training Program at The University of Texas, Austin. However, the war ends before he is called up. Don's journey then threads its way to the avant-garde environs of Berkeley, California; there the young man continues his pursuit of higher education. But, the call of his hometown, Dixon, harkens louder, stronger.
About the Author
Clark Jacob Hafen was born in and grew up in St. George, Utah, in 1926. He was graduated from Dixie High School and then attended U.S. Navy's officer training program at the University of Texas, Austin. At the conclusion of World War II, he pursued his interest in English at the University of California at Berkeley; eventually he received a Bachelor degree in English from the University of Utah in 1948. He wrote Tempest in a Teapot while teaching in St. George.
