‘An enormous number of phobias are built up around visiting the dentist, and certainly an image
Still persists of the dentist as driller-filler. By small lifestyle changes, visiting the dentist could
be much less traumatic. By preventing the disease developing, the treatment which is most
feared will, in the majority of cases, will simply not be required.
The holistic practitioner, of whatever specialisation, looks at the individual as a whole person.
Each part of the body is seen in relationship to the rest of the body, and any diagnosis is seen
in terms of the body as a whole, and how treatment will benefit the patient both physically, spiritually and mentally. No part of the body is studied in isolation. By relating disease in the mouth to an imbalance in the body, the mouth becomes ‘a barometer of health’’
[ EXTRACT FROM MY FORTHCOMING ‘DENTALLY FIT’ ]
As long ago as the 1930’s Dr Weston Price studied numerous isolated peoples who were still living on natural diets, far from the influences of western civilisation. Before they encountered modern foodstuffs such as white flours and sugars, they were healthy, happy and dentally very fit with wide jaws, wide dental arches and little tooth decay. Within a generation, however, the situation had drastically changed, and the younger, growing generation, without exception, had altered behaviourally and physically, displaying tooth decay, narrow dental arches[crowding] and poor skeletal structures.
Unfortunately we all living in an increasingly polluted and toxic environment and the conditions found by Dr Price cannot be easily reproduced. Today I sincerely believe, that to remain healthy and flourish, we need to pro-actively involve ourselves in holistic preventative lifestyles. I shall outline why the mouth is such an important ‘organ’ and how we can all benefit from holistic dentistry.
My lecture is dedicated ‘to those who have suffered through ignorance’
