About the Author
BIOGRAPHY Ingrid D. Johnson is a Winnipeg-based, published poet, spoken word recording artist, singer-songwriter, producer, social activist, social entrepreneur, and Filmmaker. Johnson has had her original songs played on Hot 103, CBC radio, Galaxy, CJOB, Streetz, Flava 107.9, and across Canada on College radio. She has received public support and exposure for her poetry and spoken word poems in The Winnipeg Public Library’s 2006 September/October newsletter, The Metro and The Lance community paper, The Manitoban, and Uptown (local Arts paper). She has been showcased on Def Poetry Jam’s website (hosted by Verse Makers), appeared on FLAVA 107.9′s Big Phat Morning show, interviewed on CKUW’s “Grammar Skool” and “Say it Sistah” radio show on 95.9 F.M., CBC’s Radio One “Up to Speed” show, CBC’s National radio show “Outfront”, CBC local news, CBC News world, Shaw T.V., and Bravo!News (Chum T.V.). In May 2008, Johnson was also featured on Hawaii’s internet blog talk radio show “MIC CHECK” and most recently CJOB, CTV, Big Breakfast Television, The Winnipeg Sun, and The Winnipeg Free Press. Johnson has performed for The Red Cross respect ED leadership program, Voices (Massive) workshops for youths, Klinic Community Health, and The Spence Community Association to raise awareness and funding. Johnson was also the spokesperson for The Clients of The Laurel Center. *** On October.26th, 2011, Johnson was chosen by The Manitoba Women’s Advisory Council and Mentoring Artist’s for Women’s Art (MAWA) to be honored along with 7 other artists by Jennifer Howard ( The Minister of The Manitoba Status of Women) to be in their publication: Women in The Arts; Artists Working for Social Change.
