About the Book

About the Author

Jeanne Williams lived in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas for four years and remembers a village drowned by Falcon Dam. The fate of Mesteno is the same as that of Williams' first beloved horse. She burned him on a hill just as Sammy does in this story and learned you cannot hold onto wild things you love.
