Botambo, a slave from the Ivory Coast of Africa, is sold at the slave market in Charleston, South Carolina to the Briarcliff plantation. His daughter, Sueellen, is apprenticed to the Brighton plantation, Dragoon, where she has a son by Oliver Brighton the master of Dragoon.
