About the Author
Nial was born in Werribee, Victoria in April 1976. Since then he has lived in Brisbane and Canberra. After completing high school at Copland College, Nial was appointed a Midshipman at the Australian Defence Force Academy, a college of the University of New South Wales. He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in 1997 and in 1998 (as a member of the advanced student division) he completed his honours year, graduating with Class I honours. Since then Nial has taken leave without pay from the Navy so he can complete a Ph.D in the area of platinum anti-cancer drugs. He is also employed by the School of Chemistry as an associate lecturer. Whikatak Island was written in his spare time and on weekends, while studying for his Ph.D.
