About the Book

Marxism and Culture attempts a history of the approach to literature as practiced by the Communist Party of the United States during the 1930s. It also attempts to set aside the distortion of cultural cold war which routinely labeled anything communist as tendentious and tainted.

About the Author

Lawrence H. Schwartz is professor of English at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. He is also author of Creating Faulkner's Reputation: The Politics of Modern Literary Criticism (University of Tennessee Press, 1988) and various articles on literature, politics and computers.
