About the Author

John Ryder Horton was a naval officer in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked in 1941 and saw Indonesia fall in 1942. From 1943 to 1945, he served in china in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese. Postwar, Horton earned a Mater's degree in International Relations at the University of Chicago and served thereafter as an operations officer with the CIA.
