About the Book
Finally, these stories are available in English. This collection of ten short stories is the first collection written by the author. Although originally written in English, Shouts of Women was first introduced to readers in French in Paris at the 16th Salon du Livre as Éclats de femmes. The stories begin with the unexpected: “One would have thought that he would have had the good taste to die in his wife’s bed” in the “The Bitter End,” “A man who had died twenty years ago was standing before me” in “The Missing Piece,” and “The affair was her husband’s idea” in “The Affair.” The stories continue in this unusual style as the main characters struggle to maintain their sanity and sense of humor in relationships with family and society, with surprising results.
“One is immediately struck by the rapid and economic style…the beginnings…are captivating…And each story, which always starts with this lively style, acquires…a certain depth and touches on present-day concerns and worries… These stories demonstrate an acute sense of observation and undeceived sensitivity.”—BREVES
