In 1972, Cass Costello, a reporter for a local newspaper is in bed with her lover when a call from the paper interrupts her tryst, sending her to the site of a residence hall on campus.

During the author's 40 years in Iowa City, she raised four children, received her MA degree in American Studies, and worked as a reporter for a local radio station, and as a stringer for the Des Moines Register and Voice of America. She retired as Director of United Way of Johnson County. She also studied writing at the University of Iowa with Richard Yates and Andre Dubus.
She and her husband have traveled, living for a time in Bratislava. She continues to write, paint and take classes.
