Take a twisted journey with Allen Friel, a man overcome with decades of depression as he begins a new job with the New Catholic Church.

Hoping this position will help heal his painful soul and give him some relief from a life filled with despair, he somehow becomes connected to a series of strange and gruesome murders involving pedophiles that begin just after he goes back to work.

As he delves deeper into his dark world of depression, seeking answers only he knows and coming closer to an understanding of the true cause of his illness, a seductive temptress adds to his problems as do the police who feel Allen is directly linked to these murders.

As he gets closer and closer to freeing himself and tearing up the roots of his depression, he realizes that if he fails, it will mean death at his own hands and death to all those he feels responsible for his last ditch failing effort.

With an unexpected twist and a question of true faith, Penance offers answers to questions we all want to know, but can only accept in part. For to accept a world with God, then one must also accept a world with the devil.

About the Author

Kenneth O?Rourke spent several years working for the administrator of the insurance program for the local catholic diocese. In that time, he developed this fictional story based upon his experiences with the diocese and its handling of certain sensitive areas of claims. Leaving that job because of the knowledge obtained, this story is just a way of communicating his hopes and faith of something better out there for all of us. Born and raised in Levittown N.Y. the son a NYC police officer, he now resides in Bay Shore with his wife and two sons.
