About the Book

Madrid, 1984. Spain is emerging from the gloom of Franco's dictatorship, blinking at the gleam of freedom. Widows in permanent black stare, horrified, at shrieking teens in miniskirts. Soldiers read furtively from once-banned books. Light and dark coexist, from the shimmer of Spain's summer playgrounds to the cold caves of Basque terrorists. The giddy nightlife sprees, the bullfights and the feasts and the chilling jolt of a coup d'état await a group of young expatriates.

Some come looking for fun, some for a future. Some are looking for Hemingway. Kevin, a New York City transplant, is looking for a whole new life. Follow his trials and triumphs throughout Spain, to London, Paris, New York, and Mexico City, as he chooses between sweet, safe love, and reckless, savage passion.

When Kevin finally feels he's got it all, he loses it in one tragic instant. And, if he can be saved at all, it will only be by the redemptive powers of Spain.

About the Author

Gerald Hough was director of the Madrid office of an American advertising agency during the 1980s and early 1990s. He became a permanent resident of Spain and married Margarita Caraballo, a Spanish photographer. They have homes in San Antonio, Texas, and Madrid, Spain.
